Not every day for a playwright is a good day. In fact, let’s face it. Many days are not. Most of us are broke or bitter about our day jobs. Our lives are riddled with rejection. The clearest sign that you have “made it” in your chosen field is that someone wants to pay you a lot of money to leave your field – to write in other medium like television or film.

But, every day spent with these actors has been a very good day. They’ve supported my process not just with their prodigious talent, but also with their enthusiasm.

Check out how they give me a send-off after a long week of rehearsal to go finish my final revisions on the script.

When April (our Hatshepsut and the narrator’s voice on the video) posted this on Facebook, someone asked me if they had this much energy every day. The answer is yes. Thankfully, yes.

These actors are all stars on their way up. Netflix has already come calling for John (our scribe Wanre). In other words, I probably won’t be able to afford to hire them in my next play. But, I feel so blessed to have these artists here now, telling this story at this cultural moment.
